Oh no! A christmas flare up of the nasty disc pain.
Life was looking pretty peachy last night. The sun was shining and is forecast to continue doing so right through the festive season. The kids are all on good form in a slightly manic hyped up pre-christmas pile of energy. I took them to the zoo and walked around with my not so little 4 month old stapped to my front. My back grumbled away with the same low level pain I've had for the last few weeks but didn't worry me too much. We had our dinner on the deck, catching the late afternoon sunshine , looking down to the ocean, looking forward to a break from work and being able to head out as a family and have some fun with the kids. Things are not looking so peachy this morning. I was running around catching up with a few things, nothing out of the ordinary and then whilst sitting having a conversation with our receptionist, Lynne, I felt my back 'go'. Sudden sharp pain out of nowhere - perhaps I had breathed wrong. I stood up hoping I was imagining it, but no, the spasmy pain in my lower back remained. The first reaction was something close to despair.. surely not. Not after religiously doing the exercies each night (I've been so terrified of a relapse I haven't skipped a single evening) I have been careful with lifting. Aaaaarhhhhh. This can't be happening. So I knocked on Grant's door in a bit of a panic knowing he wouldn't be able to do very much as had a full morning. He stuck me in a brace (like a giant piece of elastic that I can tighten round my waist - I guess to hold myself together). I'm waiting for him to assess me properly and hear my fate. I guess I am lucky - if this happened to anyone else a couple of days before Christmas they wouldn't have many options - perhaps the 'out of hours' for some anti-inflamatories. So that's why I thought I'd share what's happening. Try and record exactly what the immediate advice is this time and capture it here for reference. Here's hoping everyone else out there is heading into the holidays supple and pain free.
